  • Pompey confirm Johnson signing

As a lot of people expected Portsmoth have today confirmed the signing of English right back Glen Johnson for £3million.

Johnson who was on loan at Portsmouth last season making 26 appearances decided to return to Chelsea in search of first team football there however after signing Juliano Belletti the player has been told he could leave Stamford Bridge.

Comments on our original story on this a few days were fairly negative and quite a few fans thought this signing would not be worth while.

Harry obviously sees potential, lets hope he's right.

Johnson said on the deal "It's a fantastic move for me. "Portsmouth's a fantastic club with a lot of nice people. I learnt that when I was here last season.

"So it was an easy decision to make. It feels like I've never been away.

"The fact that I played here last season was a massive factor in my decision - I knew what the club was like.

"Harry Redknapp was a massive factor, too.

"I had to think about the move a bit, it's nice to have interest from other clubs.

"But deep down I knew where I wanted to go, especially after the success we had last season, when I enjoyed it here."

  • Fulham complete Dejan move subject to work permit.

Fulham have today signed former Portsmouth captain Dejan Stefanovic on a 2 year deal for a fee of 1 million pounds. The deal is still subject to the Serbian getting a work permit.

This deal has been rumoured for several days especially as Dejan has slipped so far down the pecking order and was unlikely to play much first team football this season.

    Lawrie Sanchez said:

‘Dejan is a formidable defender with vast experience at both domestic and international levels. He reads the game well, is brave and knows the pace and strength of the Premiership, so I have no doubt that he will prove to be an asset for us over the coming months.

‘It’s been a busy transfer period for us and we have bought some real quality into the squad. It’s been a disappointing start for us in terms of the results, but I’m confident that we have a squad of players now that can go on and achieve things here.’

We wish you well Dejan and thanks for everything you've done for us.

  • Will Knight deal prompt Fulham Dejan bid?

With Aston Villa signing Fulham defender Zat Knight today in a £3.5million deal, will this prompt Fulham to make a firm offer for former Pompey captain Dejan Stefanovic.

Dejan has already been linked with a possible move to Scottish side Rangers however has recently been rumoured with a move to Craven Cottage with Fulham now needing a quality defender Stefanovic could fit the bill.

Portsmouth have already hinted that they may accept offers on some players on the fringes of the side possibly to help fund a bid for a 15-20 goal a season striker, with new signing David Nugent possibly one of those on the way out.

Harry Redknapp talking to media said "I think Fulham want him, obviously Glasgow Rangers could come in as well.

"You'd take him all day long because he's a special character."

"I've got all the time in the world for him and I'd like him to stay.

"But if someone doubles his wages, and makes him a good offer, gives him a bit of security, and he fancies going, then I'd wish him well.

"When people give you the kind of service that he's given me... I wouldn't want to stand in his way if that's what he wants."

  • Can Pompey afford to lose Nugent?

With rumours of David Nugent's future at Pompey continuing in the media, do we actually have a choice if we keep him or can we not afford to lose the young striker?

Currently Pompey only have 4 recognised senior strikers at the club Benjani, Kanu, Utaka and Nugent, if Nugent goes that will be 3 strikers as we can't be sure we will replace him during the remaining 4 days of the transfer window especially considering that two of those strikers will be absent during the African Nations cup.

According to the Media we have 2 real targets Anelka and today Crouch has entered the frame. If either of those two is available there will be a host of clubs in for either player and we can't guarantee we will get either of them. Of course Harry Redknapp is world famous for pulling rabbits out of hats and it wouldn't surprise any Pompey fan for a completely unknown striker to suddenly appear much in the way Benjani did.  The worst case is that we sell Nugent fail to get in another striker and we are left with 3 senior strikers until the January window.

So would you risk losing a striker that's proven in the English game but not found their feet at Premiership level for a chance of signing another striker? Personally no, if Sacha is willing to fund it I would rather see an Anelka or Crouch come in before selling Nugent is remotely thought about. Perhaps a loan of Nugent to Derby with an option to buy in January may be a better option.

The next question to ask is does anyone who can afford Nugent actually want him? Derby who seem to want Nugent don't seem to have the money and have other targets in mind such as Sheffield United's Jon Stead and Southampton's Kenwyne Jones and no-one else seems to be interested.

Comments from Harry such as "I don't want to sell David but Kanu, Benjani and John Utaka are all doing well.

"He has to be patient to get in the team but the Leeds game is a chance for some of our fringe players."

Are being reported as Redknapp's desire to sell the player, to me that reads as he is not going to get a starting place for a while as our other strikers are doing well. Which is exactly why you have a squad in the first place.

Let's hope all of this is resolved soon, as the constant media speculation about David Nugent's future can't be going the players confidence any good. Hopefully he will score tonight against Leeds get some of the boo-boys off his back.
