  • Crouch Doesn't Get Call

Portsmouth have had three of their four England stars called up for the forthcoming England international matches. Both of which are world cup qualifiers against Andorra and Croatia (both matches away).

David James should retain his number one jersey with the other two less likely to start. Having said that Defoe impressed in his last international appearance and Harry has pushed Glen Johnson's claims.

Peter Crouch gives England something different and many journalists in the press have pushed his claim for the team. However for the second squad in a row Capello has decided against the 6ft 7 Pompey hit man.

  • The John Westwood Debate

John "Portsmouth Football Club" Westwood (breath) was at the centre of controversy last week after being asked to stop ringing his bell. In disgust he decided to walk out at Half Time and not return. A very emotional John then spoke to the Quay radio station after the match explaining the situation.

He travels to every game and Portsmouth is his life basically, why else would you change your name? He has also moved to the back of the Fratton End because the club claimed his current location was breaking health and safety regulations.

Having moved to the back of the stand some fans complained to officials about the over use of his bell. Many claimed the drum was bearable but the constant ringing in their ears spoilt their viewing pleasure. I don't personally sit near him at Fratton Park but do hope I'm not sitting near him when travelling to away games. Post your views on the situation below....

  • Diarra "Exclusive" Don't Panic!

The latest rumour doing the rounds is Portsmouth are set to sell Lassana Diarra for twelve million pounds. The stories started after Alan Nixon published an article in his paper "The People." I know they have to sell newspapers but this guy never seems to get a single article correct.

Below are a number of so-called, "exclusives" this man has published:

"Everton to sign Vagner Love in next 48 hours" (still at the club)

"Man City owner to sell 50% of shares in the club" (owns 100%)

"Bentley could be about to move to Everton" (went to Tottenham)

"Johnson set to make a move to Sunderland" (went to Fulham)

"Bolton will sign Joey Barton after his release" (still at Newcastle)

"Newcastle will sack Joey Barton after he is released" (Still at Newcastle)

"Man United to snap up Micah Richards from Manchester City" (No!)

"Pompey to sign John Arne Riise" (didn't happen)

This is also the guy that started rumours that Portsmouth would sell David James to Tottenham in exchange for Paul Robinson. I may well be proved wrong and Diarra may be sold for twelve million, I just don't think Pompey fans should panic over Alan Nixon's article.

  • Storrie: We still have options

With the transfer window closing in less than 48 hours Pompey are still looking at players, and Chief Executive Peter Storrie still believes there are deals to be done although admits they are unlikely to happen unless players leave Fratton Park.

Talking to The News Storrie said "We are looking and have one or two options, but we need to move people out.

"We are lining up deals but players don't want to go."

Even with no new signing Redknapp has brought seven players in on either permanent or loan deals this summer, and while two key players have left and a horror start to the season, yesterdays Everton game shows that Pompey could still be pushing for a top 6 place this season.

  • HT: Everton 0 v 2 Pompey

Portsmouth are leading Everton by two goals to nil at half time. Defoe and an unlikely scorer in Glen Johnson, with the goals. Portsmouth haven't had a great start to the season with defeats to Manchester United and Chelsea.

Defoe previously hadn't scored in eight Portsmouth games but with his drought now over hopefully he'll pinch a few more over the coming weeks. It may also be worth pointing out that the half time score wouldn't have been quite as comfortable had it not been for a superb save by David James.

  • Pompey draw Chelsea in Carling Cup

Another day another cup draw, however the balls weren't kind to Pompey drawing Carling Cup runners up Chelsea. After the 4-0 mauling we received at the start of the season I don't think many will be looking forward to this one.

One good thing though at least its at home.

  • Barton : Pompey want me

Newcastle hard man Joey Barton is claiming that should Newcastle United get rid of him Pompey will be there to snap him up.

After being released from prison on 28th July Barton has started to make his way back in to the Toon starting line up, however he is not happy that the club has tried to drop his wages and considered releasing him from his contract.

A club insider told The Sun: "Joey has told his team-mates Portsmouth will have him if Newcastle don't want him any more. He is very confident."

With Pompey seemingly having no funds for transfers I doubt a deal would be done this window however if Barton became available on a free would we want him?

  • Confusion over Linvoy loan

Pompey boss has denied reports that fans favourite Linvoy Primus has joined Charlton on a season long loan.

The 34 year old defender was thought to be joining Charlton until the end of the season however Redknapp is insisting that its only a loan until christmas as originally thought and that there was no way he would loan Linvoy out for the whole season.

Talking to The Quay after the United game last night Redknapp said "Linvoy's going out on loan only to Christmas thats not a loan for the season, not a chance.

"He hasnt played that for well over a year, and he eneds to play he wanted to to go and play and get some games.

"So thats what I've done I've let him go until christmas, but it said on the TV thats a year no chance its just til christmas"

  • Do you really want Harry sacked?

On my way into work this morning I was listening to Talk Sport and apart from having to listen to their very one sided view on last nights game, they were getting quite a few emails and texts from (I would assume) Pompey fans saying that the start to this season is unacceptable and that Portsmouth should sack Harry Redknapp.

Personally I was quite surprised by this, I know that some people have never forgiven him for going to Southampton, but he has given us the best seasons in most of our life times, and a certain section of Pompey fans want him to be sacked because of two defeats to the best teams in the country?

Yes we've had a bad start, last weeks mauling against Chelsea was not up to the standard we would expect, last night against Manchester United wasn't the best performance I've seen as a Pompey fan, but it was a definite improvement on Chelsea.

We always knew the first few games would be difficult, next Saturday we are away at Everton, again not an easy game, and we could potentially still be bottom of the Premier League with 3 games played and no points, but surely it's not time to push the panic button yet is it?

  • Defoe : Give us service and we’ll score goals

Pompey striker Jermain Defoe believes that the partnership between himself and Peter Crouch is ready to take the Premier League by storm, however he believes that to do this the strike duo need quality service to do this and is urging his team mates

During last week's hammering against Chelsea the strikers were starved of quality service with the duo looking almost cut off for the rest of the team.

Defoe told The News "It was only the first game of the season last week, we can forget about that and move on

"I'm sure if we get the right service myself and Crouchie will score goals together.

"Time will tell, but our record together is quite good. Hopefully we can keep it going and become a good partnership for Pompey.

"I could be fitter, but it's early in the season and that's normal. As the season goes on, I'll get better with my movement.

  • Redknapp demands Pompey match United’s workrate

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is demanding more from his players so they can avoid another embarrassing defeat.

Although Chelsea have world class players all over the pitch, Redknapp was angry that his side was rolled over far too easily in the 4-0 hammering at Stamford Bridge last week.

With another of the top four next up things are not going to get much easier for Redknapp as Manchester United are Fratton Park's first visitors on Monday night.

Last season Pompey were unbeaten at home against the top four at home, something Harry is keen to continue this season, although it's not expected that Pompey to match the superstars of United although Redknapp is demanding more from his team.

"We need to work as hard or harder than they do – there's no other way to beat Manchester United." Told the Official Portsmouth FC Website

"If you think you can go out and out-play them then you're in for a rude awakening. You've got to match their work-rate.

"We didn't do that last week against Chelsea and that's why we were well beaten. People talked about their amazing football but they also out-worked us all over the park.

"We've got to get back to what we're good at – being a hard-working team.

"Manchester United are a fantastic team and it's always a difficult game. You've always got to be at your best if you want to get anything out of the game.

"They're full of movement and great passing but we're looking forward to the game. It's always difficult to come and play under the lights at Fratton Park.

"We didn't lose to any of the Big Four at home last year and if we can do that again this year, then we'll be delighted."

  • Traore: Pompey Over Newcastle

Portsmouth’s latest signing Armand Traore has revealed he turned down six clubs to join Portsmouth including Man City and Newcastle. Traore told The News:

'I had Sunderland, Manchester City, Newcastle, Stoke, Hull and West Ham interested in me. As soon as I heard Portsmouth, though, I wanted to come here.

'It would have been nice to stay in London but I prefer Portsmouth to West Ham. It's great so many clubs were interested, I'm happy about that because it means people look.

'I had heard a few rumours about Portsmouth before the summer and then they got real in the last few weeks. I will definitely get experience if I play every week and travelling with the team.

'It's what I need really, I couldn't get much at Arsenal. I'm very happy to be here and happy I am going to play more football at Portsmouth than Arsenal.

'That's why I chose to come here.'

He joined Arsenal from Monaco back in 2005 for an undisclosed fee. Traore could go straight into the team on the left side of midfield due to an injury to Niko.

  • Get Money Get Shaun

Chelsea manager has revealed if Portsmouth can get the money together they can have Shaun Wright-Phillips. “SWP” is believed to worth in the region of eight million pounds but a loan deal wasn’t ruled out either.  “We have 26 players now," said Scolari.  "If I lose one or two, it's not a problem for me because I have a minimum 24 or 25. I don't know if some clubs want Shaun [Wright-Phillips] and I don't know what the player thinks about offers from other teams but as I've said before, if I have 24 or 25 and three or four players for two positions, I am happy.  "I have three or four players in this position - right wing, left wing. If the club sell one or two players more, it's not a problem for me."

Rumours about the departure of Utaka have been rubbished this week but Harry has made no secret of his desire to bring Shaun to the club.

  • Pompey clear loan slot with Thomas deal

Portsmouth today made the loan signing of Jerome Thomas into a permanent deal with the winger signing a one year contact today. If Thomas plays a certain number of games the deal will entitle Charlton to a fee.

With Premier League clubs only allowed a maximum of two loan signings at one time, Pompey were not able to bring in anyone else on loan with Ben Sahar on loan from Chelsea taking the other slot.

Talking to the Official Pompey site Blues chief executive Peter Storrie said: "It's a simple conversion from a loan deal to a permanent contract for a year. It frees up a loan space for us.

"Jerome could have been recalled by Charlton in January under the terms of his loan, but that's no longer a factor now his deal has been made permanent."

Thomas made his Pompey debut coming off the Bench in the 4-0 hammering against Chelsea.

With this move this will allow Pompey to bring in another player on loan, time will tell if Harry use this.

  • Utaka deal moves closer?

Could forward / midfielder John Utaka about to leave Fratton Park? If reports on local radio station The Quay are anything to be belived then a deal has almost been done with reports from France suggesting Ligue One side Lille have agreed a fee of around 8 million euros (£6.3 million) with Pompey for the Nigerian.

With reports of Utaka originally being brought in for around £7 million, this could see us take a loss on a player that was considered at the time to be our record signing.

Utaka has consistently failed to perform since joining Pompey 12 months ago from French side Rennes, so a departure may not be a bad thing, however with the midfield already weakened by the departures of Mendes and Muntari can we afford another to leave?

Redknapp playing Diop out on the right could indicate that Utaka isn't in Harry's future plans and he could intend cashing in on the player.
